In order to raise awareness about the environmental effects of global climate change on Lake Michigan, this interactive multimedia installation documents the starkly beautiful and dynamic features of the lake's 2007 winter ice cover. The work creates a sense of interconnectedness between the audience and the depicted landscape to explore whether such immersion in environmental art can inspire improvements in environmental stewardship.
Disappearance of the Preserver was installed as a Master's show in the UM Duderstadt Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan and premiered publicly at the 2007 Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck, Michigan.
The project was developed with the support of a Rackham research grant and media resources of the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL).
